Guv orders total ban on entry of all birds, poultry products

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson has ordered a temporary total ban on the entry of all live domestic and wild birds and their products into Negros Occidental until March 15.

Lacson, in Executive Order No. 22-09 Series of 2022 issued Monday, February 28, also banned the entry of all poultry meat, day old chicks, eggs, semen and manure from all regions of the Philippines.

The governor issued the order after birds in Bulacan and Pampanga tested positive for the highly pathogenic avian influenza strain, commonly known as bird flu.

Lacson said he issued the order to safeguard the poultry industry and to protect the public in Negros Occidental from the ill effects of the bird flu disease.

He directed the Provincial Veterinarian’s Office to install quarantine checkpoints at all entry points of all domestic and wild birds and their products.

He also called for the strengthening of biosafety, hygiene and sanitation standards in slaughterhouses, public markets and poultry farms in Negros Occidental.*
