Governor Eugenio Jose  Lacson joined Rotary International District 3850 in its continuing campaign to eradicate polio and reaffirmed the  Negros Occidental provincial government’s  commitment to protecting children against vaccine-preventable diseases, during the Polio Patak Program held at SM City Bacolod, Saturday morning, Oct. 24.

The activity, held in observance of World Polio Day, highlighted the continuing global effort to eradicate polio and protect children from the effects of the preventable disease.

The activity brought together Rotary officers, district leaders, and partners in support of the global End Polio Now campaign, which seeks to protect children from polio through vaccination and sustained public awareness, a press release from the provincial government said.

As part of the program,  Lacson led the ceremonial patak or administration of the polio vaccine to babies, assisted by Rotary officers.

In his message, Lacson underscored the importance of collaboration among the government, the private sector, health workers, communities, and families in advancing public health initiatives.

“Protecting public health is a shared responsibility. The government cannot do it alone.

We need organizations such as Rotary, our health professionals and workers, our communities, and most importantly, our parents and families,” he said.

Lacson thanked  the Rotary District 3850, health workers, partner agencies, and organizations for their sustained commitment to the fight against polio.

The governor  also assured continued provincial government support for programs that strengthen preventive healthcare and safeguard the health and well-being of Negrense children.

The End Polio Now campaign is a long-standing global initiative supported by Rotary International and its partners to eradicate polio and ensure that children everywhere are protected from the disease.*
