Two of the close in companions of Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and an employee at the Public Affairs Office have also tested positive for COVID-19, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said Monday, January 24.

This brings the total COVID-19 positive persons at the provincial government to 24. Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and 20 employees were also hit by the virus, which prompted the lockdown of the Capitol in Bacolod City this week to prevent its spread.

The two companions of the governor who tested positive on Monday were his driver and close in security detail, who had accompanied him on his long trips to southern Negros, Diaz said. They are asymptomatic.

Diaz said the governor is feeling well already and asked how soon he can go back to work.

The new Department of Health guidelines state that if one has been fully vaccinated and has mild COVID-19 symptoms one must quarantine for seven days from its onset, he said.

If one is vaccinated and is already feeling well quarantine can be reduced to five days from the onset of the symptoms, he added.

The onset of the governor’ symptoms began late Wednesday so Monday was his fifth day in quarantine, Diaz said.

The governor could assume his duties as governor Tuesday, January 25, and render work from home, Diaz added.

Lacson said he will return to work on Monday next week.

The disinfection of the Capitol and other provincial government offices began Monday, January 24.*
