Guimaras-Negros bridge to connect through Pulupandan, Lacson says

The perspective of the proposed Panay Guimaras Negros bridge posted by Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar on his Facebook page Saturday, February 13.*

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said the national government is sticking to its original plan to connect the Guimaras bridge to Negros Occidental through Pulupandan town.

Lacson said the Negros Occidental Provincial Development Council (PDC) will move to endorse the bridge project in its next meeting.

The governor said Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer informed him that the fourth district of Negros Occidental is now amenable to the bridge connecting to Negros through Pulupandan.

“We will need a Provincial Development Council resolution supporting that,” the governor said.

Lacson said for a while the national planners were thinking of only constructing the Iloilo-Guimaras bridge, but now they are including the Guimaras-Negros bridge, he added.

EXPRESSWAY
Meanwhile, the NEDA’s proposed Negros Expressway from Bacolod City to Kabakalan City is just in the planning stage, Lacson said.

We should not get too excited because the timetable for it is 2030 to 2040, Lacson said, adding that his understanding is it will be new road network.

The NEDA is just doing its advance planning as a study will have to be conducted, he said.

TAMBARA ROAD
Lacson also said he has instructed the Provincial Engineer’s Office to help the contractor in the repair of the Tambara Road in Barangay San Fernando, Talisay City, that was damaged by erosion caused by heavy rain.

Unfortunately there was a problem with the contractor who subcontracted the project, Lacson said.

So now we are helping the original contractor, he said.*
