Mayor Greg Gasataya visited the Bacolod City sanitary landfill in Barangay Felisa on Tuesday, August 5, to inspect ongoing efforts to improve Bacolod’s solid waste management system.

“We have urged the management of our sanitary landfill to fast-track the construction of the Bacolod Integrated Recycling and Technological Hub, which will drastically improve our recycling efforts and reduce our residual waste once completed,” Gasataya said.

Former Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez led the groundbreaking of the P160 million comprehensive waste management project in Brgy Felisa on March 12.

The Bacolod Recovery and Recycling Complex and Ecopark – Phase I in Barangay Felisa will mitigate environmental impact, enhance resource recovery, and support a circular economy, he said during the launching.

In addition to addressing the city’s waste, Gasataya has promised to look into improving the lives of Bacolodnons who make a living at the sanitary landfill.

“We have much work to do, but I know that as we continue to work together, we will be able to accomplish these,” Gasataya said.*
