Two fatal road crashes in Kabankalan City and La Castellana left four people dead and one injured early Sunday morning, Nov. 30.
The first crash happened at around 1:40 a.m. along the Kabankalan–Mabinay Highway in Brgy. 9, Kabankalan City.
Police said a Suzuki Smash motorcycle carrying two unidentified men crashed into the rear left tire of a parked Mitsubishi Fuso flat-bed truck.
Investigators learned from friends of the victims that the two men had been drinking and agreed to go to Mabinay shortly before the crash.
The motorcycle’s driver allegedly lost control and hit the parked truck, causing both men to slam onto the pavement.
Responders rushed them to the district hospital, but the back rider was declared dead on arrival.
The driver died while undergoing treatment.
The truck driver, identified as “Renan,” 47, later surrendered to the Kabankalan police.
A second fatal crash occurred 20 minutes earlier in La Castellana.
The La Castellana Municipal Police Station received a call at around 1:25 a.m. about a collision along the provincial road in Hacienda Alipion, Barangay Lalagsan.
Police said a Rusi TC125 motorcycle driven by “Yong-yong,” with a back rider identified as “Itsoy,” collided head-on with a Kawasaki Fury motorcycle driven by “Vincent,” a 46-year-old public school teacher from Isabela.
Investigators said the Rusi motorcycle was heading toward the Isabela side of the road when it accidentally hit the oncoming Fury motorcycle.
All three sustained severe injuries from the impact.
La Castellana MDRRMC rescuers brought them to the Rural Health Unit, where both drivers were declared dead.
The back rider was later transferred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Hospital in Bacolod City for further treatment.
Both motorcycles involved in the La Castellana crash are now under police custody.*
