Former DLSU lady spiker trains Sagay HS athletes

Former DLSU spiker Stephanie Mercado-de Koenigswarter trained high school athletes the basics of volleyball at the Sagay National High School covered court in Sagay City, Thursday, April 3.

De Koenigswarter trained 30 students from Sagay as part of her outreach program to develop athletes from the grassroots.

She is the daughter of Lydia de Vega, an icon in Philippine athletics and one of the fastest in Asia.

City Sports Coordinator Benson Fernandez said that having her to conduct a sports clinic is a great deal for young Sagaynon athletes.

“She does volleyball clinics all over Manila with other members of her former DLSU team, so having her here to give this free volleyball clinic is really a great deal especially for these young aspiring athletes,” he said.

As the provincial athletic meet continues in Panaad, Fernandez also hopes that a training like this will upgrade the talents of the young and pursue greater heights in sports.*
