Flood-hit cities of the third district of Negros Occidental are set to be placed under states of calamity.
Mayor Francis Palanca said the Emergency Operations Center and City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council today, January 4, passed resolutions recommending that Victorias City be placed under a state of calamity.
The Victorias Sangguniang Panlungsod is set to act on the recommendation tomorrow, he said.
The floods that hit Victorias City on New Year’s day affected 8,976 residents, destroyed 38 houses, and damaged 111 others, the mayor said.
The floods also caused P7.6 million in losses to crops, animals, and fishing vessels in Victorias City.
Mayor Neil Lizares also said he is also asking his city SP to place 17 flood-hit barangays in Talisay under a state of calamity.
The floods destroyed 19 houses and damaged 235 others in Talisay City.
Mayor Mark Golez said Silay City is already under a state of calamity.
He said from September 2020 until September 2021 Silay has been placed under a state of calamity because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Silay CDRRMC has passed resolutions for the allocation of funds to assist the January 1 flood victims of the city for the approval of the SP, he added.
Nineteen houses were destroyed and 193 were damaged in Silay City.*
