Firecrackers injure 67 in Neg. Occ., Bacolod

There were 67 persons injured in fireworks-related incidents in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City as of Tuesday, January 2.

The Provincial Health Office reported 58 cases, while the city government reported nine cases in Bacolod.

The PHO report said from December 21 to January 2 Kabankalan City had the most cases at 12 followed by Hinoba-an with seven, Bago City – five, Cadiz City, Victorias City, La Carlota City, Binalbagan, and Valladolid – four each, La Castellana – three, Sagay City and San Carlos City – two each, Silay City, Sipalay City, Isabela, Pontevedra, EB Magalona, San Enrique and Talisay City – one each

Injuries caused by burns were the highest at 18 followed by eye injuries at 16, blast and eye injuries – two, and burn injuries with amputation – two, the PHO reported.

The age group with the most number of injuries was from 11 to 20 years old, it added.

The Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital (TLJPH) in Silay City reported increased cases involving chest pain, myocardial infarction and stokes

There were also 11 injured in vehicular accidents and one death who were brought to the TLJPH from December 31 to January 1.*
