Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer said on Monday, February 7, that the tandem of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio continue to have the support of the majority of Negros Occidental’s officials.

Ferrer said he is joining the “UniTeam” proclamation rally to kick off their national campaign at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan Tuesday afternoon, February 8, in a “show of force.”

Marcos and Carpio are expected to campaign in Negros Occidental in the third week of February, he said.

The vice governor who declared his support for the Marcos–Carpio tandem in December, said about 85 percent of the local officials in Negros Occidental support them.

Marcos has support from political leaders in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth districts of Negros Occidental and talks are ongoing with those in the first district, he said.

The third district supporters are composed of officials from the group of former Rep. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez, he said.

The officials of the second district have not made any declaration yet, he said.

Ferrer said he was informed that PDP members have also submitted a manifesto of support for Marcos and Carpio, which he expects will have a chain reaction locally.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson has not announced whom he is supporting for president.

Ferrer said he does not believe former COMELEC commissioner Rowena Guanzon’s position to disqualify Marcos from running for president has affected his campaign.

“We will respect the pronouncements of Commissioner Rowena if that is her belief,” he said.*
