Farmer shot dead in Cauayan

A 44-year-old farmer was shot dead by an unidentified man in Cauayan, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday evening, July 21.

The shooting happened at around 6 p.m. in Sitio Gabok, Brgy. Basak, Cauayan police reported.

The police said the victim, identified only as alias “Doming,” was drinking with several companions when the armed suspect arrived.

A witness told investigators that the suspect first fired a shot into the air before challenging those in the area and shooting the victim on the right leg.

The witness and the other companions fled, while the suspect escaped in an unknown direction.

The victim was rushed to the Cauayan District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival due to severe blood loss from the gunshot wound.

The witness said he did not know the suspect’s name but could identify him by appearance and believed that he was a land caretaker in the area.

Police are conducting follow-up operations to establish the suspect’s identity and locate him.*
