A 68-year-old farmer and lot caretaker was shot dead by unidentified armed men outside his residence in Brgy. Basak, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, on Monday, Oct. 12.
Police identified the victim only as alias “Virgello,” married and a resident of Purok 7, Sitio Gabok.
The shooting happened at around 12:20 p.m.
Initial investigation showed that the victim was outside his house when unidentified suspects allegedly opened fire using long firearms.
The victim was hit in different parts of his body and died at the scene, police said.
The suspects fled after the shooting.
The incident was reported to the Cauayan Municipal Police Station by the Barangay Basak chairman at around 3:20 p.m.
Police responded to the area and conducted an investigation.
The victim’s body was later brought to Cauayan District Hospital, where the attending physician confirmed his death.
Police said the body was subjected to post-mortem examination as investigators work to determine the identities of the assailants and the motive for the killing.*
