
A 65-year-old farmer died after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a tree along the national highway in Brgy. Lopez Jaena, Sagay City, Negros Occidental, Sunday afternoon, August 3.
The victim was identified as Jesus Ubahib, a resident of Sitio Lanipga, Brgy. Magsaysay, Escalante City.
He was driving a white Suzuki multicab when the accident occurred around 5:08 p.m.
Police investigation revealed that Ubahib was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and was driving at high speed from Brgy. Bato.
Upon reaching a sharp curve near Hacienda Villa Salvacion 2, he stepped on his brakes but lost control of the vehicle.
It veered off the road and slammed into a live Gemelina tree and the impact left the multicab totally wrecked and the driver trapped inside.
Responders from the Sagay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed him to the Alfredo E. Marañon Sr. District Memorial Hospital where he was declared dead.
The Sagay City Police is conducting a follow-up investigation.*
