Officials of the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) on Tuesday, June 23, urged film and audiovisual workers in the Visayas to organize associations and guilds as part of efforts to strengthen industry representation, access government support, and improve professional standards.
The call was made during a media meet-and-greet held at Nature’s Village Resort in Talisay City ahead of the 2026 Visayas Guild Summit scheduled on June 24 in Negros Occidental.
Leading the delegation were FAP Director General Jose Paolo Villaluna, Film Worker Development Division Chief Marc Frederik Galvez, Public Information and Communication Division Chief Pocholo Goitia, and lawyer Andrea Mae Banadero of the Arbitration and Mediation Section.
Villaluna said the academy is encouraging audiovisual workers across the Visayas to form guilds and associations to better connect with government programs and industry initiatives.
“Create associations and guilds. The government is here to support you, and the Film Academy of the Philippines has many programs that can help film and audiovisual workers,” Villaluna said.
According to the academy, guilds and organizations serve as platforms for workers to access training opportunities, welfare programs, legal assistance, accreditation processes, grants, and policy consultations.
FAP said it works with active film and audiovisual workers, producers, production companies, suppliers, and other industry practitioners through capacity-building programs, workforce development initiatives, and support services.
The academy also conducts workshops and skills training programs while overseeing the country’s official submissions to the Academy Awards and other major international film recognitions.
Following the Luzon Guild Summit held in Baguio City earlier this year, FAP is bringing its regional initiative to the Visayas by gathering filmmakers and audiovisual workers from Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and the Negros Island Region.
The academy said the summit aims to help local film communities organize guilds, strengthen collaboration, share resources, and build sustainable systems that will support the continued growth of the regional film industry.
