The expansion of facilities at the Central Philippine State University (CPSU) Moises Padilla campus  in Negros Occidental is on hold pending the resolution of its land problem,  CPSU president Aladino Moraca said on Friday, August 22.

The Negros Occidental provincial government has terminated its negotiations for the  P25 million purchase of  the 2-hectare property where the campus is located from businessman Francisco Nazareno Jr., Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said earlier.

The decision was based on Nazareno’s repeated failure to submit the required legal and supporting documents, he said.

Moraca explained that of the 4.3 hectares where the campus is situated, the Nazareno family had donated 2.3 hectares, while the remaining 2 hectares are covered by a usufruct agreement that has since expired.

The CPSU  administration building, classrooms, and covered court are all located on the 2 hectares under dispute, Moraca said.

He is still hopeful that the Moises Padilla and provincial officials and the  landowner can still reach an agreement because the CPSU campus is vital to the education of many, Moraca added.

The CPSU Moises Padilla campus has 920 students enrolled in information technology, agri-business and education courses.*
