A former barangay tanod was gunned down in Brgy. Puso, La Castellana, Negros Occidental, on Sunday, November 20.
Police identified the fatality as Jovanie Omboy, 43, of Brgy. Montilla, Moises Padilla.
The victim was walking home when he was waylaid by unidentified armed men. He ran for his life, but was chased and shot by the assailants, the police said.
Police said the suspects asked if the victim was a member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU).
Recovered from the scene were fired bullets from a .45 caliber firearm and 9mm firearm.
Police are still investigating the motive for the killing, though it could be case of mistaken identity as the victim would usually go to the CAFGU detachment in Moises Padilla.*
