Escalante regulates tourism-related activities, sports, social events

The city government of Escalante is regulating tourism-related activities, sports, and social events in the locality to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Mayor Melecio Yap Jr., in an executive order issued on December 9, said the locality is concerned about the economic breakdown and is committed to extending its support for the economic revival in the city.

He added that the pandemic has caused tremendous business losses particularly in the tourism industry, which promoted some establishments to close or retrench their employees.

Among the adverse effects of the pandemic is the curtailment of the people’s social activities, leisure, and sports, he said, adding that the city recognizes the importance of sports and social activities “for the holistic development of an individual and the necessity of reviving our collapsing economy without compromising public health and general welfare.”

In the EO, the mayor said that all non-contact sports, which include but not limited to jogging, running, tennis, and swimming, are allowed, but subject to strict observance of the health protocols.

Further, footbath, thermal scanner, handwashing, and alcohol stations will be placed at the entrance of the resort, the EO said.

Non-resident guests will be required to submit a medical certificate, travel pass, and to fill out a health declaration form at the resort.

Employees of the city government are prohibited from engaging in any form of social gatherings, parties, and get-togethers in their official capacity in the celebration of the Yuletide season.

Private business establishments are also discouraged from organizing and attending such activities and are enjoined to remind their employees about the restriction.

Any violation committed by their employees or by those persons directly under their control and supervisor will be deemed committed by the establishment itself. the EO said.*
