ERC grants Negros Power authority to begin operations

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has issued a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) provisional authority to Negros Electric and Power Corp, an NEPC official said on Thursday, Nov. 7.

The Notice of Resolution dated October 16 grants NEPC the authority to begin operations as the distribution utility for the cities of Bacolod, Silay, Talisay and Bago, and the municipalities of Don Salvador Benedicto and Murcia, Niel Parcon, its vice president for corporate energy sourcing and regulatory affairs, said.

ERC usually issues a provisional authority for expediency so as not to hamper the services of a utility firm and inconvenience customers, he said.

A final authority is issued after all issues are threshed out, which normally happens in about three to six years from the issuance of the provisional authority, Parcon said.

NEPC Customer Care Centers will be opening on November 11.*
