
Two elderly women were found dead in separate drowning incidents in Sipalay City and Ilog, Negros Occidental, on Sunday and Monday.
A 73-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s disease was found dead after she drowned in Cansibit Pit in Purok Malipayon, Brgy. San Jose, Sipalay City, on Monday morning, March 16.
Police identified the victim as Paula Sagmon, a resident of Don Jaime Village in Brgy. San Jose.
The incident was reported to authorities at about 12:03 p.m. after the barangay captain informed police about a body found floating in the pit.
The victim’s son, Thomas Sagmon, told the police the victim had left their house at around 3 a.m. on March 14.
He said his mother, who was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, had previously wandered from their home but would usually return.
Two days later, at about 7:30 a.m. on March 16, her son discovered her lifeless body in the pit. Authorities said an examination of the body showed no signs of physical injuries.
IN ILOG
In a separate incident, an 83-year-old woman was found dead floating in a river in Purok Paglaum, Brgy. Bocana, Ilog, Negros Occidental, on Sunday, March 15.
Police said the victim, a resident of the area, was discovered at around 6:30 p.m. in the river.
The victim was rushed to Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City but was declared dead at about 7:20 p.m. by the attending physician.
The victim’s granddaughter reported the incident to the Ilog Municipal Police Station at around 10:50 p.m. Sunday.
Initial police investigation showed that the victim allegedly fell from a bridge into the river, which resulted in her drowning.
Authorities said the family believes there was no foul play involved in the incident.*
