Dumaguete orders pickleball courts to stop operations by 10 p.m.

Pickleball court owners and operators in Dumaguete City were reminded to stop operations by 10 p.m. following complaints from residents over excessive late-night noise.

Liga ng mga Barangay Dumaguete City chapter president and City Councilor Jovencio C. Tan Jr. issued the memorandum dated Wednesday, March 11 directing operators to comply with City Ordinance No. 20, Series of 2024.

The ordinance amended Section 5 of City Ordinance No. 35, Series of 2002, as further amended by Ordinance No. 80, Series of 2003.

Tan said the directive was issued after his office received numerous complaints from residents about pickleball courts operating beyond the allowed hours.

Tan said the measure aims to address noise disturbances affecting nearby communities.

He added that exemptions may be considered for facilities that are properly enclosed and do not disturb nearby residents.

Several pickleball courts are located in Brgy. Daro in Dumaguete City where the sport has recently gained popularity.

However, residents have raised concerns over noise and parking issues as more courts open in the area.*
