DSWD NIR delivers P37M in relief on Valentine’s Day

The Department of Social Welfare and Development Negros Island Region (DSWD NIR) transformed Valentine’s Day into a day of relief for thousands of typhoon survivors in Negros Occidental.

Through a series of simultaneous Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT) payouts, the agency provided P37 million in financial aid to families whose homes and livelihoods were shattered by the onslaught of Typhoon Tino.

The largest mobilization took place in Hinigaran town, where a massive relief operation served 5,533 beneficiaries who received a total of ₱36,278,333, the DSWD NIR announced.

This major infusion of capital is expected to jumpstart the recovery of local households dealing with both slightly and severely damaged dwellings, it said.

Parallel efforts were also conducted in Bago City and Ilog, highlighting a inter-agency collaboration with the Department of Tourism (DOT).

In Bago City 47 tourism workers received a total of ₱485,275.00, while in Ilog, 41 were provided with ₱423,325.00 in aid.

On February 13 in Sagay City, the DSWD NIR, in close collaboration with the DOT also distributed P10,325 each to 190 beneficiaries for a total of ₱1,961,750.00.

The partnership with the DOT continued in Cadiz City, where an additional 123 tourism workers were also granted ₱10,325 each to help restore their families’ daily needs, the DSWD said.*
