Drugs seized in WV up 108.41 percent

The Philippine National Police in Western Visayas confiscated drugs worth P302.58 million from May to December this year, which is 108.41 percent higher than in 2022.

The police conducted 1,285 buy-bust operations and arrested 1,686 individuals in Western Visayas from May 24 to Dec. 19, the Police Regional Office-6 reported Thursday, Dec. 21.

This led to the confiscation of 273.40 grams of marijuana valued at P32,808 and 44.50 kilograms of shabu valued at P302,576,744.

In the same period last year the police conducted 992 drug operations, arrested 1,203 individuals, and seized 2.8 kilos of marijuana valued at P339,284.40 and 21.35 kilos of shabu valued at P145,181,428.

Drug operations increased by 293 or 29.54 percent while the number of arrested persons increased by 483 or 40.15 percent, the police reported.

Police Regional Director, BGen. Sidney Villaflor, said that the numbers speak of the PNP’s resolve to end the fight against illegal drugs in the region.

“It is also a testament to our dedication and commitment to have a drug-free community”, he said.*
