Driver of mini van that hit student surrenders

The driver of a mini van that bumped and killed a criminology student after he fell off a tricycle at the highway in Brgy. Estafania, Bacolod City, surrendered on Monday, Nov. 21, the police said.

Kimberly Rambillo surrendered to the police three days after the accident on Friday, PCapt . Peter John Ramos, Bacolod City Police Station 4 chief , said.

CCTV footage showed Ayessa Ace Abellar, 22, fell off a tricycle at the Burgos-Extension road in Brgy. Estefania and an approaching mini van hit him while he was still on the ground.

Ramos said that the suspect did not immediately surrender to the police because she was scared.

Rambillo is now under the custody of Police Station 4, while John Helmar Pido, the driver of the tricycle, was freed after he was detained by the police.

The family of the victim has yet to decide whether they will file a case against Rambillo or agree to a settlement, Ramos said.*
