DPWH turns over evacuation center

A multi-purpose evacuation center worth P39.5 million was blessed and officially turned over by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region VI to Barangay Taculing on Thursday, March 3.

The structure, which sits on a 1,400 square meter lot, comes complete with basic amenities such as a reception area, mess hall, kitchen, laundry area, toilet and bath, play area for the kids, storage room, an admin office, recreation room, electrical room, basketball court, prayer room, breastfeeding room, clinic, conjugal room and consultation room, a press release from the Bacolod City Public Information Office said.

“I am happy that the DPWH has built this evacuation center in a location that is close to the community”, Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said.

“Centers like this are indispensable to our City and must be a part of our disaster plan. I hope that it will serve its purpose and protect and shelter our people when the time comes,” Leonardia said.

Also present at the event was Bacolod Rep. Greg Gastaya, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, outgoing Bacolod District Engineer Abraham Villareal, DPWH Region VI Regional Director Engr. Tiburcio Canlas, District Engineer Jaime Javellana, Assistant District Engineer Leah Jamero, Quality Assurance and Hydrology Division Assistant Chief Maritess Quimpo, Construction Division Chief Malou Peñiro and Project Engineer Alejo Germinal.*
