DOH: Bacolod now Covid low risk area

The Department of Health dropped the COVID-19 risk classification of Bacolod City to low on Monday, August 2.

The DOH said the COVID-19 average daily attack rate of Bacolod City per 100,000 population was 13.92 percent from July 2 to 15, which was high.

However, from July 16 to 29 the COVID-19 average daily attack rate of Bacolod City dropped to 6.93 percent, which the DOH classified as low.

Negros Occidental remained a low risk area for COVID-19 with its average daily attack rate of 3.43 percent from July 2 to 15 further dropping to 2.11 percent from July 16 to 29, the DOH said.

Bacolod City is under General Community Quarantine with Heightened Restrictions and Negros Occidental is under GCQ.

Bacolod City had 34 new COVID-19 cases and Negros Occidental had 61 on Monday, the DOH said.

Bacolod City has 1,066 active COVID-19 cases, it added.

Negros Occidental has 1,229 active COVID-19 cases, the Provincial Incident Management team reported Monday.

The overall risk classification of Western Visayas is low, the DOH report said.

The risk classification of Aklan is high, Antique and Iloilo City – moderate, and Capiz, Guimaras and Iloilo province – low, the DOH added.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said while the COVID-19 cases in Bacolod City have been going down residents should not be complacent amid the threat of the highly contagious Delta variant that has already hit Panay.

He reminded Bacolodnons not to let their guards down and to continue to practice minimum health protocols such as wearing of face masks and shields, social distancing and hand washing.

Leonardia cited surges in COVID-19 cases in areas around the country and the United States where the numbers had previously been low.

The drop in COVID-19 cases in Bacolod City has resulted in the closure of three quarantine sites for lack of patients, he said.

The city government is continuing its mass vaccination drive against COVID-19 to protect residents against the virus and its deadly effects, he added.*
