A 26-year-old driver died after his tricycle collided with a truck while trying to avoid running over a dog that suddenly crossed the national highway at Brgy. Poblacion, San Enrique, Negros Occidental, on Saturday, July 17.

Killed was Vincent Cañete, 26, a baker, while his passenger, Jojean Pura, 26, who was his partner, was injured.

The victim avoided hitting the dog, which caused him to encroach on the opposite lane and collide with the oncoming truck driven by Arturo Bayona, 45, of Talisay City, a police report said.

The impact caused the victims to be thrown off the tricycle. They were brought to the Don Salvador Benedicto Hospital in La Carlota City but the driver was pronounced dead on arrival.

The truck driver was detained at the police station.*
