The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) launched two Tech4Ed Centers in Victorias City today, November 19.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony and turn-over of equipment packages for the Victorias City Public Library that will host one techno hub and another in Barangay 5 that will be housed in the barangay multi-purpose building was held, a press release said.
Leading the turn-over program were DICT representative Cresile Lozano, Negros Occidental project officer, Victorias Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca, Councilors Junb Bantug and Derek Palanca, Barangay 5 Punong Barangay WarlitoUndar, and Benjie Villa, representing the Third District Congressional Office.
Rep. Francisco “Kiko” Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) tapped the DICT programs for the Third District and in 2018 the first Tech4Ed Center was started in Barangay 20 in Victorias City.
Tech4Ed or Technology Empowerment for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurs and Economic Development is one of the DICT flagship programs implemented nation-wide and designed to establish community e-centers to provide e-government and ICT-enabled services for those with minimal or no access to information and government services, the press release said.
The facilities set-up in these centers are open for the free use of out-school-youths, farmers, women, students, teachers and entrepreneurs with no internet access, OFWs, PWDs, senior citizens, and indigenous people, it added.*
