The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is investigating the cause of the flashfloods and rockfall in Canlaon City and other areas in Negros Island during Typhoon “Tino”, a Department of Environment and Natural Resources official said on Monday, Nov. 10.
The Office of the Civil Defense has also conducted an aerial survey together with other government agencies to determine the extent of the damage caused by the flashfloods in Negros.
DENR Regional Director Charlie Fabre said personnel from the Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park, Mines and Geosciences Bureau and a team from Manila are already conducting the investigation.
The aim is to find out what caused the flashfloods, he said.
There is also a report that there was a landslide that occurred in Kanlaon Volcano that caused rocks to fall in Canlaon City, La Castellana and Moises Padilla.
Fabre said they cannot confirm that until the investigation is completed.
He added that they are also looking at the volume of rainfall at the time.*
