
A 17-year-old boy was shot dead along the national highway in Brgy. Refugio, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, Thursday night, Feb. 5.
The victim was a resident of Brgy. 5, San Carlos City, whose name was withheld by the police.
PCapt. Jesus Alba, Calatrava police chief, said based on the evidence obtained and the information on the victim’s cellphone, they established that a debt was the motive behind the shooting of the minor.
The suspect, also a resident of San Carlos, became angry and forced the minor to meet him.
Based on a copy of the CCTV footage obtained by the police, the two went to the boundary of San Carlos and Calatrava in Brgy. Refugio where they talked for about 15 minutes, and then the suspect shot the victim.
The suspect is an alleged drug personality, while the victim’s father was arrested by San Carlos PNP in a buy-bust in recent months.
The incident occurred at around 8:49 p.m. and was initially reported as a vehicular accident at about 9:35 p.m., the police said.
The attending physician declared the victim dead around 10 p.m., the police added.
Further examination revealed that the victim sustained a gunshot wound on the right side of his head with an exit wound at the back.*
