
The agricultural damage across Negros Occidental caused by heavy rains from September 16 to 27 has now surpassed P6.3 million, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) reported on Tuesday, September 30.
The OPA report submitted to Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the majority of the losses were sustained by the rice sector.
Damage to rice caused by Typhoons Mirasol, Nando, and Opong, along with the southwest monsoon amounted to P6,117,219.
This loss affected 351 farmers across nine local government units, including San Carlos City, Salvador Benedicto, Calatrava, Cadiz City, Silay City, Isabela, Moises Padilla, and Sipalay City.
In addition to crop losses, the OPA reported P182,000 in damage to the fisheries sector.
The Provincial Veterinary Office placed the loss of farm animals at P21,000.*
