Cueva allocates P1.12M for teachers scholarships

Rep. Leo Rafael Cueva (Negros Occidental, 2nd District) allocated P1.12 million worth of scholarships to the first three batches of the first ever “School Heads Academy” program of the Department of Education- Sagay City Division that aims to train public school teachers to become school leaders.

The partnership was inked through a memorandum of agreement signed by Cueva, DepEd-Sagay Acting Superintendent Arlene Bermejo, and Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology president Renante Egcas at Vito National High School on July 15, a press release from Sagay City said Monday, July 26.

The “School Heads Academy” is a first of its kind program in the city that aims to institutionalize a platform to formally train and prepare aspiring public school teachers in Sagay to become school heads in various DepEd schools and offices, the press release said.

The memorandum also stated that 25 qualified teachers will be enroled in NONESCOST to be trained for three succeeding semesters. All of the fees— including miscellaneous, tuition, and other allowances like load, transportation, among others— will be covered by the office of Cueva.

Cueva said that this budget allocation for the program is aligned to the thrust of his office to upgrade the quality of education in the second district.

“I hope that this will be one of the ways to help our teachers to be trained in order to be efficient managers of our schools and further improve the learning of our schoolchildren,” Cueva said.

The event was also attended by Mayor Alfredo Marañon III, Vice Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr., and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod,

Meanwhile, two schools, Sagay City Eco-Zone National High School and Vito National High School received multipurpose covered courts from the Second District amounting to P2.2 million each.

The turnover ceremony was also done during the signing of MOA for School Heads Academy.

The multipurpose covered courts were presented to the schools by Cueva as his initiative to support education facilities.

He said in his speech that the covered courts weren’t his own donation, but rather he only had served as initiator to fulfill dreams of schools to build facilities beneficial for learning.*
