CRIMARIO Southeast Asia rep Coast Guard Southern Visayas

The Coast Guard District Southern Visayas hosted a courtesy visit from Alexandru Chiric, the Southeast Asia Representative of the Critical Maritime Routes Indian Ocean (CRIMARIO) program at its headquarters in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, on Sunday, Nov. 30.

The visit signaled a growing partnership between the Philippines and CRIMARIO in advancing maritime security across the region.

Discussions focused on boosting information-sharing systems, upgrading maritime domain awareness tools, and strengthening coordination in monitoring sea lanes in the Visayas.

The meeting also emphasized the need for joint initiatives to address emerging maritime challenges, including illegal activities at sea, navigation safety concerns, and the increasing demand for real-time situational awareness.

CGDSV said in a press release that the collaboration will support ongoing efforts to develop more resilient, responsive, and technology-supported maritime operations in Negros and nearby provinces.

The courtesy call is seen as a developmental step toward long-term cooperation that aims to secure vital sea routes and improve the overall safety of maritime communities in the Southern Visayas.*
