Covid hits 325, kills 9 in Negros on Jan. 26

Negros Occidental’s active COVID-19 cases hit 2,493 with 325 new cases recorded on Wednesday, January 26, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.

Cadiz City had the most number of new COVID-19 cases with 54 followed by Kabankalan City with 43, Sagay City – 34 and Pulupandan– 22, he said.

There were also nine new COVID-19 deaths in Negros Occidental with four in Murcia, three in San Carlos City and one each in La Carlota City and Cauayan, Diaz said.

The COVID-19 positive health care workers (HCWs) in Negros Occidental provincial government-run hospitals also increased to 119, he added.

The Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay still had the highest number of COVID-19 HCWs at 70 followed by the Ignacio L. Arroyo Memorial District Hospital in Isabela with 13.

The Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City and the Valladolid District Hospital in Valladolid town had nine HCWs each hit with COVID-19, Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital in La Carlota City – eight, Cadiz District Hospital in Cadiz City – seven, and the Merceditas Montilla District Hospital in Sipalay City – three.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said the number of COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region is going down and what happens there usually happens in the rest of the country.

He hopes the COVID-19 cases in Negros Occidental will also drop in February, Lacson said.
