Council of Concerned Citizens to fight corruption in gov’t

A group called the Council of Concerned Citizens has been formed to fight corruption, promote transparency, and safeguard the proper use of public funds, former Bacolod councilor Renecito Novero said.

“Our immediate concern is the series of anomalies in the flood control projects in Bacolod City and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH),” a statement from the group that held a press conference in Bacolod City on Wednesday, Sept. 10, said.

Despite billions of pesos allotted, flooding problems remain unsolved, and questions linger about how these projects were implemented, the press statement said.

“We believe that citizens must not remain silent in the face of waste, negligence, and corruption,” it said.

The Council of Concerned Citizens will serve as a watchdog for accountability, demanding answers, exposing irregularities, and pushing for reforms that ensure public resources truly benefit the people, it added

“Our call is clear: Investigate the flood control projects. Hold DPWH accountable. End corruption and incompetence,” the council said.

“Together, we can build a culture of accountability and integrity for the good of our community,” it added.*
