Comelec debunks fake news, says no BSKE postponement

The Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) will be held on November 2,  there will be no postponement.

This was stressed by Negros Island Region Commission on Elections Director Lionel Marco Castillano on Tuesday, June 2, following a post circulating on social media that the polls will be postponed.

“It’s fake news,” he said.

The BSKE will be held on November 2 pursuant to Republic Act No. 12232, which was signed into law by President Ferdinand  Marcos Jr. on August 13, 2025.

There is no new law that has been passed granting its postponement, he said.

Meanwhile, Election Registration Board (ERB) hearings began Monday to determine the final list of voters for the BSKE, Castillano said.

When one submits a voter application, one is not officially registered yet. The board meets to review new voter applications, approve the qualified ones, and handle any formal complaints from local residents who want to contest an applicant’s eligibility.

At the same time, the Comelec uses these hearings to clean up the existing voter lists by removing people who have passed away, moved, registered twice, or skipped voting in the last two consecutive elections.

The Comelec will come up with the consolidated list of voters for the NIR in two to three weeks, Castillano said.

Castillano said he acted as ERB chairman in La Carlota City on Monday because the Comelec officer there was transferred to Talisay City and no replacement was available yet.

There was no opposition or protests filed before the La Carlota ERB, Castillano said.*
