Negros Occidental Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer said on Tuesday, April 11, that he would welcome Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson’s joining the United Negros Alliance, but pointed out that the coalition between UNegA and Love Negros remains strong.
“If he joins us he would be very welcome,” Ferrer, who is UNegA president, said.
He pointed out that in the past UNegA was the only political group in the province until Love Negros was created, and he has no problem with whomever joins the group.
Lacson is a member of Love Negros.
The vice governor was reacting to a statement of Cadiz Mayor Salvador Escalante, UNegA secretary general, that there have been recommendations to invite the governor to join UNegA.
But Escalante said his opinion was “let’s not rock the boat, Gov. Bong is with Love Negros and we have a strong coalition.”
Lacson has not indicated any plans of transferring to UNegA, Ferrer also said.
Meanwhile, Ferrer did not confirm if he is running for congressman of the 4th District of Negros Occidental in 2025.
His wife, Rep. Juliet Ferrer, is on her last term as congresswoman of the 4th District.
Whatever the mission that the Lord gives him, he will face it, Ferrer said.*
