The Bacolod government is closely monitoring all road and drainage construction work in the city to ensure that safety measures versus accidents and completion deadlines are met.
They are also sending letters to contractors to give the city government 48-hour notice before road demolition work is undertaken so traffic can be rerouted and the public forewarned, City Administrator Pacifico Maghari III said on Tuesday, April 11.
Contractors implementing city government road and drainage projects will be penalized for delays in completion, he said.
They are reviewing city government projects because Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has directed the imposition of penalties on all violators, Maghari said.
The Department of Public Works and Highways is also closely coordinating with the city government, he added.
The mayor has asked for a list of all ongoing and incoming projects, and is requiring all contractors to post their completion dates, Maghari said.
The city government is also requiring the contractors to observe safety standards, including the putting up of warning signs, he added.
The city government is collating numerous complaints relayed by residents so they can be acted on and contractors can be reminded of their responsibilities, he added.
The city wants to deliver the message that contractors cannot just do whatever they want to do, there will be weekly if not daily monitoring of their work, Maghari said.*
