City cops destroy P28.4K in firecrackers, pyrotechnics

The Bacolod City Police Office destroyed P28,400 worth of confiscated firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices during a simultaneous disposal program held at the BCPO Compound on Sunday, January 7.

Lt. Col. Noel Polines, BCPO Deputy Police Director for Operations, said it was a simultaneous event undertaken following a directive from the Philippine National Police central office to dispose of all the confiscated illegal firecrackers during the New Year’s celebration.

This is in line with the implementation of Republic Act 7183 or the Illegal Possession/Sale/Use of Firecrackers and PNP’s “Ligtas Paskuhan 2023” program, he said.

Polines said that they disposed of the assorted firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices through submerging them in water and burying them to avoid recycling.

He said that their confiscation of illegal firecrackers started on December 27 and ended on January 6.

The confiscation was also aimed to minimize illegal firecrackers outside of the firecracker zones within Bacolod, he said.

There were firecracker zones in the 61 barangays of Bacolod City, he added.*
