CHMSU to bring translanguaging  workshop for teachers in NIR

The Ateneo Center for English Language Teaching (ACELT), a premier center for education and development in English language and literature teaching, is bringing its landmark professional development program to the Negros Island Region (NIR) for the first time.

In partnership with Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU), ACELT will host a two-day workshop titled Using Pedagogical Translanguaging in Teaching English: Responding to the Challenges of the MATATAG Curriculum on May 25–26, at CHMSU’s campus in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

The workshop addresses one of the most pressing issues facing Filipino educators today: equipping teachers to harness the full multilingual repertoires of their students within the framework of the new MATATAG Curriculum, a press release from CHMSU said.

Rooted in current research on pedagogical translanguaging, the training will provide practical, evidence-based strategies that empower teachers to move beyond guilt-ridden code-switching toward a deliberate, systematic use of multilingual resources in the classroom.

Designed for grade school, high school, and college teachers of English — including teachers who use English as a medium of instruction — the workshop offers 12 CPD units upon completion.

Early bird registration is available at ₱1,999, which includes meals, a workshop kit, a certificate with CPD units, and access to the digitized ACELT Forum.

The program will be led by distinguished trainers Irene Benitez, Marianne Perfecto, and Cecilia Suarez.

Educators are encouraged to register early at https://go.ateneo.edu/ACELT-GOES-TO-NIR.*PR
