Senatorial candidate Francis “Chiz” Escudero is batting for a bigger budget for agriculture.

Escudero, at a press conference in Bacolod City on Tuesday, March 8, said the budget for the Department of Agriculture in 2020 was only P80 billion, while the Department of Public Works and Highways got P800 billion.

He said more money needs to be allocated by the national government to modernize and aid the agriculture sector, including the sugar industry.

Escudero said he hopes the presidential candidates include a bigger budget for agriculture in their platforms of government.

The Sorsogon governor said he has not endorsed any presidential candidate yet and remains neutral.

However, he reserves the right to endorse one before the elections.

Surveys are not 100 percent true or accurate but are a good guide, Escudero said in response to a question on how reliable they are.

They are considered a snapshot of the people’s perspective on the day they were taken, he said.

Surveys come out two to three weeks, sometimes a month, after the field work was done, Escudero pointed out.*
