There has been a rise in pneumonia and flu cases in Negros Occidental triggered by changing weather conditions, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Girlie Pinongan said on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
“There are a lot of respiratory cases in our facilities. They are well taken care of and well managed,” she assured.
The sudden changes in the weather from extreme heat to rain, and the nutritional status of patients are among the causes of these respiratory ailments, Pinongan said.
She stressed the need to strengthen one’s immune system by eating proper food and exercising.
“If you are sick or feeling unwell, wear a mask and stay away from crowded places to avoid infecting others,” she said.
It is also better to consult a doctor and not self-medicate, Pinongan said.
No super flu cases have been reported in Negros Occidental so far, she said.*
