The Negros Occidental provincial government is allocating P10 million for the purchase of rice, canned goods and hygiene kits to replenish its stock for evacuees should Kanlaon Volcano erupt, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said Friday, Sept. 20.
He said camp management teams are also being prepared at the Panaad Park in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod, for evacuees.
“But we are hoping and praying that there will be no major eruption as it would be a major setback for the province’s economic gains,” he said.
The provincial government will also allocate an initial P100 million for the construction of dormitories that can accommodate about 5,000 evacuees at the Panaad, Diaz said.
When there are no evacuees the dormitories can be used as athletes’ quarters, he added.
The dormitories can be used to house athletes in training or participating in sports events, he said.*
