Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson led the distribution of P630,000 in medical and shelter assistance, social pensions, and centenarian awards in Candoni, Negros Occidental, Thursday, February 11.

The activity was held at Barangay West Covered Court in time with the town’s fiesta celebration.

Fifty residents received P5,000 each in shelter assistance, 50 senior citizens received P3,000 each in social pension, ten beneficiaries were given P3,000 each in medical assistance and two centenarians received P100,000 each, a press release from the Capitol said.

The beneficiaries of the shelter assistance are informal settlers who were affected by municipal construction and road widening projects.

Present in the activity were Negros Occidental Board Member Jeffrey Tubola, Candoni Mayor Cicero Borromeo and Vice Mayor Loriemae Gargar, and other local officials.

Lacson advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the cash assistance given to them and prioritize their needs.

He also lauded the town for having zero COVID-19 cases for the past months.

Tubola also urged all Candonians to help each other, especially in the midst of the pandemic.

The provincial government’s programs on emergency shelter assistance, medical assistance, social pension, and awarding of centenarians are facilitated by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) headed by Merle Garcia.*
