A 14-year-old daughter of a farm worker, who sustained third degree burns in a fire that hit a computer shop, needs help.
Jesserie Garcia of Hacienda Maritaldan, Barangay Consing, EB Magalona in Negros Occidental is confined at the Intensive Care Unit of the Bacolod Queen of Mercy Hospital, and her family can no longer afford to pay her hospital bills, charity diva Token Lizares said Friday, May 14.
When the 14-year-old was rushed to the hospital by concerned citizens the doctor said she had a 50-50 chance of living but she appears to be improving, her sister Jerrelyn Garcia Oro said.
Garcia was in a computer shop in Barangay Consing when strong wind accompanied by rain and lighting toppled the bamboo post where the WiFi connection was attached. This caused it to hit a livewire that triggered a fire, Oro said.
The other children at the computer shop escaped but the 14-year-old fell and was found in a corner with the left side of her body burned.
She also lost part of her left ear and some of her teeth, Oro added.
“Concerned citizens rushed Jesserie to the Bacolod Queen of Mercy Hospital. My father works at a sugarcane farm and my mother has no job, we cannot afford to pay the hospital,” she said.
They hope to be able to transfer the child to a government hospital but she is still in the ICU, she said.
“We do not know what to do anymore, we need help,” Oro added.
The child could not be admitted at the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City or the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod on Monday because they were full. Those who rescued her had no choice but to rush her to a private hospital to save her life, Lizares said.
Lizares said the immediate need of the family are medicines for the child.
