Bago joining global celebration of World Disco Soup Day

Bago City is set to make history as it joins over 20 communities across 18 countries in celebrating World Disco Soup Day, on Sunday, April 27.

World Disco Soup Day is an international campaign led by the Slow Food Youth Network to raise awareness about food waste and climate action through community-based cooking, learning, and celebration, a press release from SFYN Bago said.

This marks the first-ever World Disco Soup Day celebration in the Negros Island Region, to be held at Bantayan Park, Bago City, organized by the Slow Food Youth Network of Bago FRESH (Food Resilience for Education, Sustainability, and Heritage) Community in partnership with the City of Bago through the Bago City Tourism Affairs Office, it said.

The event is part of the Bago City’s “Booming Green Bago” drive, as well as to promote sustainable food systems, zero food waste, and local food heritage.

World Disco Soup Day is a global movement where volunteers come together to cook surplus ingredients that would otherwise go to waste; all while enjoying music, sharing knowledge, and advocating for Good, Clean, and Fair food for all.

Originating in Berlin, Germany in 2012 as “Schnippeldisko,” a protest soup event that fed 8,000 people, the initiative has since evolved into an international symbol of youth-led action for food system transformation.

The event will feature a live cooking demo using rescued ingredients, an Earth Market Jr. showcasing local producers, food artisans, and product features of youth-led civic organizations, and a special performance from a local youth band.

Admission is free and open to the public. *
