Bacolod now experiencing Covid-19 second wave: Ang; 28 die, 68 cops test positive in April

Bacolod City is now experiencing its second wave of the deadly coronavirus pandemic, City Administrator Em Ang said Friday, April 30.

There were 28 deaths and 1,415 new COVID-19 cases in Bacolod in April, said Ang, who is also executive director of the city’s Emergency Operations Center.

The number of Bacolod policemen who have tested positive for COVID-19 in April have hit 68 with nine new cases Friday, she said.

The inmates at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology isolation facility in Barangay Handumanan who have tested positive for COVID-19 also hit 53 Friday, she added.

“In August 2020, Bacolod had 1,244 COVID-19 cases and in April of this year there have been 1,415 cases so it is really a second wave,” Ang said.

The highest COVID-19 cases of Bacolod were in August and September of 2020, and then the numbers flattened in January, February and mid-March this year, she said.

Then suddenly the COVID-19 cases went up again, that led to Bacolod’s surpassing the August 2020 figure, which was the second highest in the city, she said.

“I hope we do not reach the September 2020 level that was 2,600 plus,” Ang said.

Bacolod City had 43 new COVID-19 cases Friday, the Department of Health reported.

The city has 867 active COVID-19 cases, but 230 recoveries are subject for verification, Dr. Chris Sorongon, EOC deputy for medical data and analysis said.

He said from March 2020 to Friday, April 30, Bacolod has had 7,566 COVID-19 cases and 225 deaths.*
