The Bacolod City government will do its share to complete the Bacolod City General Hospital in Barangay Vista Alegre , Mayor Greg Gasataya assured on Wednesday, July 29.

“While the Department of Public Works and Highways implements the construction, the city government, together with the Department of Health, will provide for the necessary medical equipment,” he said.

“Our priority is to see this building finished and fully operational so that we can immediately deliver the healthcare services our people deserve,” the mayor added.

The assurance came after Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri stated on Tuesday that the Bacolod City government and the DOH should allocate funds for the hospital’s medical equipment.

Zubiri said that the additional ₱100 million released for construction this year marks the final installment of his allocations through his institutional amendments toward its completion. The amount brings total national government allocations for the project to approximately ₱500 million.

Gasataya thanked Zubiri and the national government for their continued assistance in establishing the facility.

“When I authored Republic Act No. 11564 establishing this facility alongside Senator Zubiri, our shared vision was to ensure that Bacolodnons would finally have their own hospital and a reliable institution to turn to in times of emergency,” Gasataya said.

The mayor said in  a conversation with Zubiri on Tuesday night, he clarified that during coordination meetings with the DPWH and the DOH, the LGU always agreed that national funds were strictly designated for infrastructure completion.

“I completely agree with Senator Zubiri that this budget should not be diverted to purchase hospital equipment, but rather utilized to promptly finish the construction of the building,” Gasataya said.
