Bacolod Comelec, councilor’s office closed as COVID hits 2 employees

The Commission on Elections in Bacolod City will be closed from March 29-31 for disinfection, Negros Occidental Provincial Comelec Supervisor Ma. Fatima Aspan said Sunday, March 28.

The temporary closure was ordered after a Bacolod Comelec employee tested positive for COVID-19, she said.

The close contacts of the employee will be swabbed for COVID-19 tests at the Bacolod Respiratory Outpatient Center at the BAYS Center on Monday, March 29, she added.

They have been under strict self-isolation since Saturday, she added.

Bacolod City Councilor Cindy Rojas Saturday, March 27, also said her office at the Bacolod City Government Center will be closed after one of her staff tested positive for COVID-19.

She said Robert Jan Torres who has played a tremendous role in helping her office bring home thousands of returning residents, has tested positive for COVID-19.

“I advice anybody who has come in contact with Robert at the BCGC and elsewhere to quarantine yourselves and observe for any COVID-like symptoms,” Rojas said.

She said her office will be closed starting Monday, until further notice, as the rest of the office staff go on quarantine after being exposed to Torres on a daily basis.

They will work from home as they continue to process S-PaSS applications of returning residents, she added.

“Our communication lines will still be openly active to receive questions and concerns from our returning residents,” Rojas said.*
