A newborn baby boy was found abandoned along a roadside in Murcia, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday night, April 15.
Police said the infant was discovered in Hacienda Bernabe, Brgy. Salvacion.
Authorities said three minors from Don Salvador Benedicto were searching for frogs when they heard a baby crying.
They followed the sound and found the newborn still with an attached umbilical cord, partially uncovered, and wrapped in cloth.
Police said the area was dark and isolated, with no nearby houses or lighting.
The baby was brought to the Rural Health Unit in Murcia and is now under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Police said this is the first recorded case of an abandoned infant in the area.*
