Baby dies, 4 injured in ambulance accident

The ambulance that hit the waiting shed*

A 1-year-old baby died while four others, including the driver, were injured after the ambulance they were riding on accidentally hit a waiting shed in Brgy. Paraiso, Sagay City, Negros Occidental, 8:55 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21.

The baby girl died while injured were her mother Anna Marrie Esparaguera, 23, barangay tanods Joseph Mary Esparaguera, 28, and Roy Ignacio, 42, who assisted the baby, and the driver Angelito Ilalim, 51.

The ambulance was supposed to bring the 1-year-old child to the Lopez District Farmers Foundation Hospital Inc., the police said.

However, due to heavy rain and lack of precautionary measures, the driver was unable to control the vehicle, resulting in the ambulance swerving to the opposite lane and hitting a wooden waiting shed on the side of the road, the police reported.

All the injured passengers were brought to the Ramon B. Gustilo Hospital in Manapla and the baby was declared dead on arrival.*
